Overview

Name of Project: Ndopa na Kweema
Definitions: ‘Ndopa’ is a Tumbuka word which means Blood.
‘Na’ is a Tumbuka conjunction, an equivalent of and.
‘Kweema’ is a Tonga word that means Folklore.
Location/Target Population: 120 High School Learners (15-20 years Old)
Audience:                                    Zambian Population (All Ages)
First Target Languages: Chewa-Nyanja, Bemba, Luvale, Lozi and Tonga
These five linguistic groupings have been picked for practical purposes and especially that they are languages spoken predominantly and auxiliary in the following nine out of nine provinces of Zambia: Lusaka, Copperbelt, Southern, Northern, Western, North-Western and Eastern Provinces as well as parts of Central and Luapula.
Implementing Agency: Arts and Culture Advocates of Zambia (ACAZ)
Start Date: March 2011 (Subject to change)
Duration: Initial Project to run for 54 weeks in six phases and each phase constituting 9 weeks.
Program Aim
While promoting culture and arts in schools, the aim of the project is to encourage behavior change in young people and to test for HIV and know their HIV status using the generated and organized forum for arts and culture workshops and performances in local language and traditional music, dance, poetry, proverbs, myths, sculpture and folklore to disseminate and discuss HIV and effective HIV prevention methods.
